Ifab
Promoted by the Emilia-Romagna Region, IFAB was born in Bologna at the end of 2019 in the heart of Italy’s Data Valley, where the new European research hub in HPC is being formed: the Big Data Technopole. The Foundation aims to be an independent and authoritative reference point in the scientific and cultural debate taking place globally on human development, sustainability and new science, taking part in major national and international networks in the supercomputing field and operating as a “bridge” between technology, research and their concrete applications in industrial and social fields.
IFAB’s mission is to connect this world related to supercomputing, made of technological infrastructure and advanced skills, with businesses – including medium and small ones – and with public administrations that want to push innovation, finding in new technologies the enabling assets for problem solving, opportunity creation.
In addition to this main activity, IFAB also carries out interdisciplinary and applied research, training and dissemination activities:
- Consolidation, enhancement and promotion of scientific research and its interdisciplinary implications, with particular reference to Big data and Artificial Intelligence.
- .Construction of scenarios regarding the transformations of the economic and social system in relation to the great challenges of our time: climate change, health emergencies, exploitation of resources and management of complex urban systems and application of conventional and innovative technologies.
- Dissemination regarding the role and potential that Artificial Intelligence and Big Data can have in addressing global problems and beyond, impacting people’s lives. The intent is to raise awareness among the general public, as well as business leaders and policymakers, about the importance of these new technologies.
